More studies, travels and films

Marie:

In the first half of the year I turned 19 and went on a week’s vacation to Sardinia in April with some high-school friends. We travelled around the island for ten days with a camper, a car and a tent and were able to enjoy spring break despite the cold weather.

During the summer, I spent two months preparing for the basis exams for the first year of medicine and successfully completed them at the end of August. After three days of hiking vacations with my study friends in August, I officially moved into a shared apartment in Zurich. Before my third semester began, Before my third semester started, I went on vacation with Michèle for a week in southern France, where we celebrated my successful exams.

I am now in my third semester, which is much more exhausting, but I still enjoy studying very much. I am preparing for my next exams in January and February.

All in all, this has been a very educational and intense year, and I am excited to see what 2023 has in store for me.

Hannah:

December 2022 really does feel like the end of a year to me. My 30-minute short film “Sand castles”, which I’d been working on since summer 2021, premiered late November. With it, I can close an exciting, but demanding chapter. “Sand castles” has opened quite a few doors for me. I was able to shoot several big commercials this year, including for the aid organization HEKS and the bank PostFinance, as well as music videos for the famous Swiss band Hecht and the newcomer Dana.

In between shoots I enjoyed catching up on some travel plans: my boyfriend and I spent two weeks in Costa Rica, a few days in Barcelona and a weekend in Brussels.

I just moved into a small office in Zurich, where I am working on pitches and new projects. It’s right next to the office of Shining Film, the production company where I interned in 2020/2021. In summer, they put my name up on their website with their official directors.

I’m excited for the new year – not least because I’ll have several jobs to work on, beginning in January. And of course, there’s the occasional, bigger fiction project that’s never far away…

Michèle:

2022 was a lively year for me. Those of you who follow me on social media but don’t see me often in real life might have noticed that I travelled quite a lot. After a fabulous hiking/birding/gastronomy road trip in southern France with my friend Ursula, I fulfilled a 5-year-old dream and saw the American musical “Hamilton” in London.

In London and later in Barcelona, I travelled with the kind and smart man who had become my companion early 2022, the first one since Matthias’ passing in 2012. We are no longer together but good friends, thankfully.

I also spent two wonderful weeks in southern France: in July in Provence alone then with Hannah, and in September east of Marseille with Marie. Hannah and I renewed our family tradition and saw two plays at the Avignon theater festival.

In September, I treated myself to a guided birding tour in Estonia. This country is a much too well-kept secret for nature lovers. Within a week, we watched 130 bird species as well as wolves, bears, moose and even a lynx!

And finally, in December, the girls, Hannah’s boyfriend and I met my mother-in-law for a fun weekend in the Black Forest. We were happy to find her in such high spirits.

After all these travels, the house feels quiet(er), especially now that Marie has moved to Zurich, but all is well. I greatly enjoy Hannah as my roommate and am ready to embrace whatever life is holding for me in 2023.

We wish you a peaceful Christmas and a blessed New Year!
